History

Thanks to a long history of trade and cooperation, Sweden has a significant economic impact on the United States. In 1783, Sweden became the first country to enter into a trade agreement with the U.S. Today, Swedish exports to the U.S. are valued at $10.2 billion annually, making the U.S. Sweden’s fourth-largest export market. Swedish foreign direct investment (FDI) in the U.S. exceeds $50 billion, positioning Sweden as the ninth-largest foreign investor. More than 300,000 American jobs are supported by Swedish-American economic relations. Sweden is also a member of the European Union (EU), which is the U.S.’s largest economic partner. SACC-DC serves as a supporting platform for its members, working to keep these economic and professional relationships active, relevant and forward-looking across the Mid-Atlantic region.
